This original anime from the studio Shuka with a total of 12 episodes, was directed by Hiro Kaburaki, Taku Kishimoto script, the character design was made by Tomohiro Kishi and featured a soundtrack by Sh?go Kaida.
History takes place in the city of Lawless during the prohibition of alcohol, a time in which the mafia thanks to the traffic of this element had gained much power. Angelo Lagusa has been years away from Lawless since his entire family was murdered by a plot of the Vanetti family, however upon receiving a letter with the name of the murderers of his family decides to return to the city, infiltrate the Vanetti and get His revenge.
The animation is appropriate to the theme, being quite sober and dark. Without exaggerating in the lively violence and the blood but also ignoring it to be very conservative with the censorship. The Shuka studio generally maintains a decent animation standard for the duration of the series, however it has moments where the quality decays considerably which could annoy more than some.
That 90% of the anime repeats each year the same formulas is something that can not be denied, however something that is not often seen in this medium is a story of revenge under the mafia theme and the dry law era . Already with that base is not a product for the usual anime audience, although among so many adaptations of light novels it feels like a breath of fresh air.
91 Days does not reinvent anything within the stories built around the Mafia, with its fights of powers, shady deals and like revenge does not make sense beyond being a cycle that is repeated along with other elements, even several of their scenes remember Classic moments of this genre in the cinema, such as the final episode and a whole sequence that reminds of "Road to doom" of the year 2002. However, this lack of innovation is not a negative point as it focuses on offering a Good story of revenge. If I had to give the biggest problem is that although at the time of building the story made a very good investigation of the subject failed to make their characters are charismatic at least, they are all little more than a one-dimensional being that exists to comply with their cliché , Maybe some more work on the characters would have been grateful since that way their deaths and decisions would affect the viewer.
In my opinion as an original series, 91 Days is not being held back by any adaptation hindrances or an established fan base. However, the show is hardly anything original either. Picture this. It's the Prohibition Era and Mafia, gangs, and mobs rule the street. Liquor is like gold while the police force is anything but useful. Organized crime is almost everywhere you see and is common that it's practically accepted. At the top of the food chain are the mafia organizations that controls the system. The Vanetti Family is one such mafia that emerged as a powerful group led by a man named Don Vincento. He has also been named Nero who will hope to protect his family's treasure. Avilio is able to get involved in this family's affairs as a subordinate while others remain oblivious to the fact that he wants to destroy them from within. Sounds quite appealing right? It's almost sounds like a revamp of a gangster story from the 80s or something out of a James Bond movie.
91 days is a series of Action, Historical, Drama. The story is set in the early 1900s during prohibition, it begins with Avilio Bruno (The main character) receiving a letter and going back to the flashback of his past, when his family was brutally murdered by Vanetti Family and he was the sole survivor, Running away for 7 years he's finally back in his hometown to seek vengeance, with the assist of his father's friend who sends him the letter earlier.
It's an anime with a much darker theme and things like violence, gruesome killings, fast pacing are inevitable so it may not please everyone but with each episode, the story will progress and gets really compelling.
I'm glad that we got something unusual, this is the absolute work I was waiting for.
It got all the way to make it worth watching, give it a try.

It is not an anime for everyone, but for those who enjoy the mafia it is a series that deserves an opportunity to see it. It will have its small problems, especially the short duration and the lack of a better development of characters, but it is quite enjoyable and I like that sometimes the studies leave their comfort zone to try this type of projects.
91 days catalogs by far to be one of the best series of its season.
It's a very well done anime, the story, the setting and the characters are incredible.
The anime is developed in a United States environment where the mafia dominates everything, this story will have facts such as revenge, anger and family, but it is not only the plot that makes this story interesting, but also the characters, are Well developed, have complex, eye-catching personalities, OST give the necessary action to the story and the graphics and environments look very well detailed.
I emphasize this production by its action, the genre is well elaborated and it contrasts a lot of the usual series to those of these days since it is not a simple or smooth story.
This anime reminds me greatly of the movie series The Godfather. Perhaps, it's because of the running "Mafia" theme. When I started watching episode 1, I was hyped up. It was a great start to a great anime. However, when I started watching episodes 2 and on, I wasn't so sure because I'm not a fan of Mafia movies. But I kept watching because I had nothing else to do. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it so much. I watched all episodes in one sitting. In fact, 91 Days even made its way to my favorites.
What makes it so good? There are twists in the story that you won't see coming. The characters depict real human emotions. Lastly, the last episode will leave you holding your breath.
